Cinema Studies, Thursday, Period One

The Danger Shop was set up with a projector and somehow even more popcorn than last week. How? Don't ask silly questions.

"So, we're starting out strong on movies this week," Jane said as the projector was spooling it up. How had they gotten an old fashioned projector to play movies? Reasons. Aesthetic reasons.

Cara seemed suspiciously cheerful. "Today's is based on real events," she said. "Or at least it resembles something that actually happened on the island."

Notice how she didn't specify what those events were.

"That could mean a lot of things," Jane muttered as the movie started up on the screen. "But everyone, enjoy the movie!"

And remember, at no point that you been promised good movies.

WTFH - Fandom Radio [Thurs, Jan 15th]

Why are my notes covered in...this is going to take hours to clean off.

*chittering*

Yes, I do blame you, Leroy. Thanks for asking.

Up at the School, The Long Con learned the rules of conning, Creative Writing wrote down ideas on a 'White Board of Doooom', and Glitter! did arts and crafts, which explains a few things.

There was a castle of books in the Library, where Arden explained phones to Sairis, and tried to figure out when Mardi Gras was with Gray.

Nothing much happened in the Dorms, while in Town, Liliana was asleep in bed, as opposed any of the other, surely more newsworthy places she could be sleeping. Over Easy had some kind of waffle cake pop thing that I have multiple pages of notes debating the exact details of, Adrian was bearing gifts at Pick Your Posion, mostly for Pam, though Rey got kisses out of it. At Furnado, Prompto used Stark visiting the dogs to distract his child, while Caleb came looking for a job. Dogs visited, Stark went home to celebrate his birthday with a cupcake.

The Magpie Emporium, Thursday (1/15)

It was halfway through January already (how???) and you'd think Steph might have gotten used to writing the correct year on all the invoices and paperwork, but no. No, she hadn't. Granted, this situation was not at all helped by Saffron constantly and loudly demanding to be fed and then voicing her displeasure that her dish was not full enough for her liking, but still.

She was working on a total overhaul of the Kickstarter game recs board, complete with hand drawn and colored cutouts of various fantasy and sci-fi creatures, so the counter was a little bit of a mess. Oops.

Fandom Island Museum, Thursday Daytime

Khonshu had been keeping Steven and Marc busy of late.

Well, all right, mainly Marc but they were a package deal so whoever Khonshu asked for couldn't exactly go it alone, could they?

Regardless, it had meant more time back home on things which weren't pleasant holidays.

Steven wasn't thrilled about it for any number of reasons. He knew Marc wasn't entirely happy about it either. It was difficult to fully complain, though. They'd had years of largely being left alone to do as they liked on the island. A deal was a deal. They'd both agreed to be Khonshu's avatar, so they could hardly complain when asked to fulfill their part of the bargain. Particularly when Khonshu was keeping his about not asking them to murder anyone.

Still. It rankled. It felt lopsided in a way Steven couldn't fully articulate. Nothing he could put his finger on though. More something he chewed on in the back of his head, as it were.

At least today nothing had been asked so there Steven was, behind the museum's Welcome Desk as usual, ready to help any visitors who might have need of him.

MHA #8, Wednesday evening

Stark had spent his assigned birthday as a mostly usual Wednesday. At least a usual Wednesday these days.

His morning had started with squirrels and radio. Then there had been Glitter. Then he'd gone to the animal shelter to visit some dogs. Visiting with Noctra and her father had been a bonus.

He'd taken himself (but not any dogs) for a walk in spite of it being winter and then he'd gone to JGoB for a cupcake. Birthdays needed dessert, didn't they? The staff at the bakery had handed over multiple cupcakes for the price of one, and candles.

That was why Stark was now seated on his couch with a cupcake on the table in front of him, complete with lit candle. There was no singing. But he did make a wish. Maybe more than one.

[it was meant to be a quiet chill day at work and it was for part of the day but not the end and the afternoon/evening got weird and busy and with no data from Verizon so this is hours later and not a townies post heh. Could be open but almost certainly establishy at this hour]

Glitter. - Wednesday- 3rd period

Class was taking place in one of the actual classrooms today. Would that be the case every week? Quite possibly! There were supplies on Kitty's desk for the taking, while she stood at the front of the class, beginning with, "Sorry for the missed class, but I was a Lion. And you don't want a Lion teaching glitter.

"So. What is this class about? I'm still figuring that out," she admitted. "It'll be more than an arts and crafts class, where we'll get to try out different uses of glitter, maybe discover a way to clean it up? Maybe? Anyway, your first class is arts and crafts. I've got paper and glue and a bunch of random stuff up here to take so you can make something with glitter. If you can't think of anything, go with a rainbow."

Adrian had come to work bearing gifts!

A very belated Christmas gift of an entire crate-full of pickled, canned, dehydrated, fermented, dried, and otherwise preserved late fruits and vegetables from his garden. Yes, autumn had been over for awhile, but these things took time.

But now they were here, with a big red cloth bow on the crate to make it festive, and a witch who was very pleased with himself behind the counter.

The library wasn't as weirdly quiet as it had been last week, for which Arden was grateful for. She didn't know if whatever it had been had run its course, or been thwarted, or something else had happened, but it hadn't happened on her shift, and for that, she was grateful.

As for this week, the castle made of books she passed on her way to the circulation desk? Didn't even rate a mention on the weirdness scale.

Creative Writing [Wednesday, Period Two]

Class was in a normal classroom this week, and Aphra and Isabela were already present, so there were probably not going to be any shenanigans this week. Probably.

"Now that we've gotten introductions out of the way," Aphra started them off. "We're going to talk about the most important skill you can have when engaging in creative endeavours."

"Ideas!" Thank you Isabela, for being so enthusiastic there. I'm sure everyone appreciated it. "They say there's no such thing as a bad idea, but some are better than others."

"You have a good enough idea, and no one will care about how badly you write." Though grammar was important, kids.

"So for today's exercise we want you to just come up with as many ideas as possible, just throw things at the wall and see what sticks."

"And by throw things at the wall, we mean write it on this whiteboard, and if anything someone else has written sparks another idea, write that down as well."

Furnado Animal Shelter; Wednesday [01/14].

With riding lessons on the horizon in Noctra's near future (he was thinking it might be a good birthday present, actually, for when she turned three next month and he figured it was also a good incentive to really push her on that last leg of her potty training, which he felt kind of bad for, but also, he felt it was a parenting tactic that Ignis, the most parent-y non-parent person he knew, would approve of), Prompto had gotten her a few picture books about horses, and she was eager to come along with him to the shelter so that she could ask the vet all sorts of horse questions.

Grilling her, really. And when Prompto eventually suggested that she take a break so that the vet could get some work done, she pouted a little and insisted that she wasn't done. "I want Aunt Liliana to be inbreast."

If Prompto had been drinking something at that moment, he would have been spitting it out.

"Impressed," he corrected. "You want her to be impressed."

"That's what I said, Daddy! Inbreast!"

Closing his eyes, Prompto counted backwards from ten and was mostly just relieved that neither Gladio nor Ignis were here to expand on that furth--

Oh, no. Expand was a terrible word to use there, narrative.

Anyway, Furnado is open!

Fandom Radio, Wednesday 1/14

Good morning. It’s Wednesday. It’s my birthday. Sort of. The one that was chosen for me. Anyway. The news from yesterday.

At the school Raiden taught his Feeding Yourself students how to use kitchen appliances. Including how to properly put things in a dishwasher. Ethics focused on emotions and how to deal with them. Trying to ignore them is never the correct choice. And then in Basic Training Remy had his students attacked by hateful people. They fought back. Good.

Nothing from the dorms. Maybe I’ll bring you a cupcake next week, Intern Porg.

*chittering*

No. Not for you.

In the town, Ignis was at Luke’s with a lot of coffee and coffee in recipeh. Liliana joined him for…breakfast. As usual.

And in the evening, Lucifer had to deal with Tiny trying out some sort of mysterious musical instrument. Not well, it seems.

And that’s all for yesterday, today. Perhaps I’ll see some of you later today and the squirrels will talk about it tomorrow.

Ethics, Tuesday January 13

Today we're going to start with the tenets of the Jedi Order," Anakin said. "The viewpoint of the galaxy we operate from."

"Like any set of ethical principles, they present a kind of simplified ideal, in practice there is of course nuance and interpretation," Ahsoka said.

"Exactly," Anakin agreed. "Just because the Jedi Code says something doesn't exist, it doesn't erase it from the galaxy . It means we as Jedi must diminish it's impact in our lives."

"Diminish isn't the word I'd use," Ahsoka replied. "But it does require making choices about what to prioritise." Or who. Anakin.

"What would you use instead?" asked Anakin Skywalker, dumbass.

"Prioritise," Ahsoka repeated, slowly.

"Right," Anakin said. "I knew that!"

Clearly not.

"The first verse is 'There is no emotion, there is peace.' Explain what that means, Ahsoka."

"Well, to make things clear, Jedi don't pretend we have no feelings," she said. "We experience the entire range of emotions like any other sapient, some quite deeply, and there's no shame in that, but we cannot allow ourselves to be ruled by them, to let them override our judgement." Like say, taking an apprentice who was nearly Force null because she was the absolute opposite to your own, overpowered master, not that Ahsoka making some assumptions about future her or anything. "We work to understand why we're feeling how we do, then let go of those feelings, so that our minds are clear when we act."

Anakin nodded. "So let's discuss what sort of techniques you would employ to let go of strong feelings and seek clarity for decision making."

"When in doubt, meditate." It was both a hint and fairly practical Jedi life advice.

Feeding Yourself 101, Tuesday, First Period

"Okay!" Raiden declared, clapping his hands together. "Everybody gather around." He herded them to one of the Home Ec room's kitchen workspaces. "Today we're gonna learn how the appliances and fixtures in your standard modern kitchen work. Now, pretty much every kitchen will have a stove, a refrigerator, a microwave, and a sink. Probably a dishwasher. After that, things get optional, but we'll cover mixers, food processors, and blenders today, and that should be enough to get you started. The controls might be different from model to model, but basically, here's how everything works."

Those of you who already knew what a blender was might not need to pay attention, but some of you should probably listen up as Raiden handwavily talked through and demonstrated how to use all of the above items. He even demonstrated how to load the dishwasher, although he was sure some of you heathens wouldn't pay attention to that part. When he was finished, he asked, "Are there any questions?"

Basic Training, Tuesday

They were back in the Danger Room Shop once again, though this time instead of a blank canvas, it was set up to resemble a block of a city street. Just a generic street, vaguely New York-esque, but not actually any recognizable part of New York. The buildings along either side were tall, up to ten stories, but not towering, and the street itself was crowded with cars, but only because they were sitting at a red light. In a moment it would turn green, and the cars would be in motion again. There were facsimiles of people walking by, and a few dark alleyways here and there where nefarious dealings -- or the stoppage of those dealings -- might occur.

"Last week, you gave me -- and each other -- a taste of what you can do. Today? I will let you go ahead and do it. If you need supplies, you can find various weapons and other odds and ends in the shops. You have five minutes to prepare before the attack."

Attack of what? . . . You'll just have to wait and see.

One thing about having a partner who was dealing with some sleeping troubles was that it meant that Ignis also now shared in some of those sleeping troubles, even with his and Liliana's often disparate sleeping schedules. But just as she was, unfortunately, hardly a stranger to fitful dreams, he had spent nearly a decade on the very edge of sleep, prepared for whatever darkness might lurk beyond.

Also, he had coffee.

Coffee of which was in blissfully high supply at Luke's, and that he was clinging to extensively that Tuesday.

Well. Even more than...

Okay, it wasn't really that much different than how much coffee he drank on an average Tuesday, but there was, perhaps, more deeply grateful sighs after sips than was strictly typical.

What up, Fandom? It's me, ya girl, Arden Finch, comin' at you with all of yesterday's news fit for drunk rodents to talk about. The porg is lying down facefirst on the floor, so I'm guessing that there are no Dorm notes, but we've got the School's all lined up, so here we go!

Squirrel! tried meditating today to what was pretty much the best meditation track ever, [BLEEP] That: An Honest Meditation. Really, you should check it out. In Beginner Gourmet Cooking Techniques, Dr. Lecter showed up how to work a gas oven and how to boil water, and then we all made pasta! Soooooo much pasta, actually.

Which is why in Town when Caleb - hi, Caleb! - was 'brooding all broodily on the beach, at least until I showed up, I foisted some of the class leftovers onto him! And then we talked about our worlds and how different they are from here and each other. Also in town at the Infinite Consortium, Professor Vess was muttering to herself a lot - why do you squirrels hate me? - and throwing a--nope, not reading that one out loud. Anyway, Professor Vess was rearranging, uh, energetically. And at The Photo Hut, Mr. Argentum was checking out what folks were wearing on the red carpet for one award or another. The squirrel didn't say. And at the Clinic the nurses reminded Professor James that it was "Kiss a Ginger Day" and holy [BLEEP], why would you say that?.

On that incredulous note, this is ya girl, Arden Finch, signing off and wishing you a happy Tuesday! I'm leaving you with grandson today with his hit, Blood // Water. Give it a listen, you'll love it.

Fandom Clinic, Monday 1/12

Stark brought coffee with him, as always, though lunchtime coffee wasn't quite the same as morning coffee. It was still important. The nurses deserved it. They also deserved the cookies he'd brought with him today.

Even if one was eyeing him oddly.

"Is something wrong?" he finally asked.

"Nah," the nurse said. "Know what today is?"

"Monday?" Stark said uncertainly. "Almost my birthday? The...twelfth of the month?"

"Did you know it's Kiss a Ginger day?"

Stark shook his head. "No. I didn't. Um."

Stabby suddenly moved to crawl out of his tank.

"Absolutely not!"

The clinic was open, the crab might be trying to kiss people, and the alien was a little nervous.
